Hello!. I am new there, so please be kind...

I have SE V19 (I have ST but I use V19 for now).

I have customer who has CATIA V5 R18 model. SE can read V4, but not V5.

My question is what is best way to read V5 into SE?

I googled one company "RadialSoft" who sells Add-in converter soft.

Is this software good? or any other recommendation.

When in doubt, have the other party convert to Parasolid as first choice and probably step as second choice. Ask them to verify the translation.

This may not be the answer you're looking for though.

KENAT,

Have you reminded yourself of faq731-376 recently, or taken a look at posting policies: What is Engineering anyway: faq1088-1484

Hello Kenat. Thank you for responding.

If I could ask customer to convert to STEP or IGES, I would ask them. However, we have no choice to do so.

It is like asking Boeing to do our favor. Our customer is just one of vendors of Boeing.

Therefore it is much easy for us to read CATIA V5 files.

It is not practical to install CATIA at our office. Since we have SE, our best option is to read CATIA file into SE.

Hi Masakik,

We have SE V20 at our office and use the Siemens SE to Catia V5 bi-directional Translator.
We deal wih all of the Major aircraft OEM's, including the authority on Catia:)

I have successfully exchanged .catpart files with our customers and have read in .catpart (V5) and .model (V4) with great success.

Be sure htey are providing a .catpart file, as .catproduct does not necess' contain all the files needed.

In my opinion do NOT try radialsoft, we had(have) it, it is not installed anymore. Results with Siemens translator was MUCh better with same cost. :)

Hello. ScotsEdger. Thank you for your response.

OK, I see it. Siemens is selling Add-on converter. How could I miss this...

Anyway, I will ask reseller for this add-on.

Thank you for your info!

You guys are quick and great!

From what I understand, the V5 converter is very expensive.
You could try Theorem Solutions in UK -
I have dealt with them for a Catia V4 translation and they were very helpfull. They will verify and provide images of the conversion so you don't pay for a load of crap, and give you the price before you buy the data.

I don't understand. CATIA V5 parts and assemblies can be imported in V20 Foundation and Classic (I don't know about Design & Drafting), and in ST as well. Why don't you install ST (which you say you already have) so you can open the files in it, then convert them back to Parasolid to work in V19? Of course you'll need to find out which release of Parasolid is compatible with V19 (my guess is v18.0 but I'm not sure).

If I remember correctly, I once downloaded a Catia V5 small assembly from Solidworks's 3DContentCentral, and opened it in V20 without problem. Of course the model probably wasn't modeled in Catia originally.

You can have both version on the same computer (V19 and ST). Do a search on this forum, it's been already discussed.

Unless you need to translate the files back and forth with your customer...

Please take into account that I am only a CAD enthousiast, with some knowledge of SE, interest in other packages but not much else experience. :)

Didn't spot that one gemnoc.
I'm on V20 at work and the File > Open dialog lists V5 .Catpart (parts) and .Catproduct (assembly) files, so they should open directly.

Thanks everyone! I appreciated your input.

I had ST, but I haven't using it since it was too much for me to handle. So, I really didn't check that ST (or V20) can read V5.

Well, result on ST wasn't good. I could read V5, but not as good as I hoped. I tried on RadialSoft, it was much better than ST. Still, not perfect.

I got approval to get CATIA translator from Siemens, So, I will let you know the result.

Thank you very much!!!!
