Catia V5 Icons Disappearing

I have had the same issue with disappearing icons. Restoring your contents is fine as long as you haven’t customised your tool bars.
The best way I have found is to get the layout of your tool bars and icons as you like them and then take a copy of your CATSettings then when they move or disappear again just copy them back.

i would setup an environment with default catsettings... you can easily share the environment with other users.
and clean usercatsettings when they are corrupted. (after closing catia)
