I have a contoured part that needs to be machined (3 axis mill) undersized. I would usually just use negative value in the offset on part but I have found if I use a negative value greater than the diameter of the tool (e.g. -40mm offset with a 20mm tool) the path will not compute!

Any tips for a good way to do this job??

Thanks
Aaron

I might be wrong but I would say it is also link to the minimum curvature of the geometry you start with.

if you start with radius of 100mm then the offset at -40mm would result in a radius of 60mm which should be OK for a tool of 20mm radius, but if you have a 50mm radius to start with the offset would give a 10mm radius and that would be hard to machine with a 20mm radius tool.
