Catch Basins

I was wondering if someone could clear something up for us here regarding the use of catch basins in HydroCAD... Are there any benefits to modeling catch basins as separate nodes from an upstream detention pond?

I ran a test on a simple stormwater system and found that my flows and WSEs are the same, whether I used one pond node to model the detention pond and catch basin (as its outlet structure) or two nodes (one for the detention pond and one for the catch basin).

Any comments?

Modeling the CB as part of the pond outlet structure is generally preferred, since is avoids the need for a separate tailwater analysis between the pond and the CB. You will find an illustrated example at
