Dear all,

Purchasing some water butterfly valves with ductile iron body, I have met that suppliers don't carry out any liquid penetrant inspection although it was specified so. Isn't there any sense requiring such tests for ductile iron vvalves? why?

Suppliers just tell me that is not necessary..

Thanks for any help

I think it's a question of the risk/reward ratio. Why spend more money on water service valves? The worst that can happen is that the water will leak - more a nuisance than anything else. If you pick a good quality manufacturer, then his quality system should be adequate. Also, your valve must be lined (probably with NBR or EPDM) so a flaw in the body is even less meaningful.
