The norm in our company is to use the file name in th BOM. When I created a part, I accidentally used lower case letters instead of upper case. Now, I am having a nightmare of a time correcting it.

I've tried renaming it in Windows Explorer, SolidWorks Explorer. I've tried save as. I've tried save as copy and the replaced it.

I've tried deleting the part and reinserting it with all of the above options, but to no avail.

Any suggestions? I'm stumped. Silly issue, but appearance is everything.

Windows doesn't distinguish between upper and lower case. So if you want to change a file name from sample.sldprt to SAMPLE.sldprt, you need an intermediate step.

e.g. Change the name to sampleSAMPLE.sldprt, and then remove the lower case letters.

You should be able to do this in Windows Explorer without upsetting any references.

OK ... ignore my post. You used to have to do that to change case in Windows, but that no longer appears to be the, umm, case. And I see that the change in case isn't propagated to SW. I'm sure it used to.

Strange!

OK ... so don't completely ignore my first post. [smile]

Use SW Explorer to rename using the intermediate step method I suggested in my first post. It's a PITA to have to do it twice ... but it works.

I thought I knew how to do this, but now I'm confused. %-)

I do as CBL suggested in his THIRD post.

Always use SW Explorer to rename/move/replace/etc SolidWorks files. Doing this within Win Expl can and will break links and other damage.
