yes! you can't open part which made with commercial license using the student version of pro/e

In order to open the assembley part you need the parts that made the assembley. Anything that is *.asm.# is an assembley file. I don't know much about what the student version is capable of doing.

While what jusford said is true, what tony said is more relavant to your case. Student versions can't open commercial version files, and vice versa.
