I am doing the structural design for some equipment manufactured in the US and installed in BC Canada. I am wondering if the National Building Code of Canada applies or do I need to buy the BC building code.

There is also a stack design to do. Will the Canadian codes allow use of ASME STS-1 or is there a Canadian stack design guide that must be used.

National Building Code of Canada is applicable for all over Canada, but some provinces have their supplement codes like Ontario has Ontario Building Code and BC has British Columbia Code. In general they are not different but for permit and connstruction they require local building code applicability. It is just for Building Permit Purpose etc..

The provincial codes are the legal codes and are all based on the National Building Code (their model code). You should use the BC code since it may have more particular seismic provisions.

Thanks everyone.

Does anyone know if ASME STS-1 can be used in Canada for stack design?

Yes you do use STS-1, there is no current Canadian equivalent. The code can lead you to some pretty thin shell walls, tread carefully.
