Can SolidWorks run on Mainframe? 3

My only question at this time is “Can SolidWorks run on Mainframe?”

History as to why I am asking the question:
Our assemblies are getting to large to open. Of course we do not following the 300 mates per assembly rule. The computers our guys are using are better than mine listed below. We have gone through our VAR to find out why they open then crash. They all are working on their own hard drives. Our management is talking about switching to Catia. I know when they find out the cost they will say no. By the way, do anyone know the cost of Catia?

How many mates/parts do you have in some of these assemblies? I know that we've put some pretty big ones together here, definitely more than 300 mates on the top level, with nothing more than some slow load times.

You had responded to my posting a few weeks ago regarding SW08 crashing when opening assemblies.

My VAR has been in contact with SW and they have made some suggestions but no solution as yet. If you visit the SW site and read the "performance", "general" or "installation and ..." pages you'll read a few other posts with similar problems.

Personally I've already spent enough money on software, support and a PC that was spec'd using the SW recommendations. I would expect a solution to be forth coming.

What is causing Solidworks to crash? Are you running out of application memory space? Do you have the /3GB switch set in your boot.ini file to allocate more memory to your applications? If you are running out of memory, have you looked at a 64bit OS and a 64bit version of Solidworks? This will allow you to open larger models than the 32 bit OS and application.

One of you top assemblies have 543 mates. It took 25 minutes to open. I click the lightweight button and it did not in Lightweight. Total components are 16692. Unique parts 1788. We have 599 old version parts. We have several mate errors. A star for you.

We fixed the problem with SolidWorks crashing every time, by starting PDM after SolidWorks has started. We normally do not crash, almost always crash on the very large assemblies. A star for you.

We have 64 bit machines. SolidWorks Pro 2008 x64 SP3.0EV, PDMWorks Workgroup, Dell XPS Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU, 3.00 GHz, 5 GB RAM, Virtual memory 12577 MB, nVidia 3400. The computers our guys are using are better than mine.

The Catia sales people say that we could purchase a seat for $11,900 and run on our current pc’s. Catia opens assemblies very nicely.
