Hi folks,

I am struggling to source a fuel level sender that is compatible with an 11-bit ISO 11898-1 (CAN 2.0A?) vehicle CAN system. The only CAN fuel level senders that I have been able to find are 29-bit SAE J1939 (CAN 2.0B) units. I have found an academic article online that suggests that CAN 2.0B devices are backwards compatible with CAN 2.0A networks but this article is quite old so I am not sure whether what is written is current.

Can anyone confirm that an SAE J1939 CAN 2.0B fuel level sender will work with an ISO 11898-1 vehicle CAN network? What do mainstream OEMs do?

Many thanks,
Dave
