Can anyone suggest the best type of bronze for the plain floating journal bearings on a gearbox layshaft, bearing in mind lubricity, embeddability and load?
Thanks Jagman

An 80-10-10 ( copper-lead -tin) alloy, cast or sintered, on a steel backing with a thin lead/tin alloy electro-plate surface is the premium material.

Thanks for your post McGuire
The bushes are fully floating so they can't be steel backed.
I had wondered about SAE 791 (Cu 88, Zn 4, Sn 4, PB 4)although this may not be sufficently score resistant for a gearbox application and perhaps a higher lead content is necessary.
