Can anyone identify these

On the attached jpg are two pictures. First picture "part of fan coil" is due for installation on a roof to be part of the fan coil unit. What is it & what are the kinds/levels of leakage do they have/if any?

Finally, does anyone recognise the second picture?

1st Looks like a cooling tower but probably is an economizer with the linked dampers . The 2nd like an Engine/Generator. As for leakage, ?

No trick questions. I'm just trying to learn as much as possible about HVAC systems and on my journeys as a student surveyor I come across lots of these "beasts" and I am just generally interested in the whole thing. Reading BS books all day gives a good idea on how they work but when you come across them in life, it's a case of what is that??!!

I'm not convinced that the first picture is a cooling tower. There are no water connections evident. Of course, they might me on one of the sides we can't see.

I'd go with economizer module.

Not a cooling tower. That is a set of mixing dampers. These are often used to control the mix of fresh air supply and recirculated air. There are other uses.

If the two are related I would guess that it a water cooled generater, pic 1 is the heat rejection, pic 2 is the generator

The pictures are from different buildings (sorry should have mentioned).
Bill. You mentioned that they would be used for control of mixing air. There is also a fan coil system in place. DOes this mean that there would be a AHU somewhere in the building or can these dampers be connected directly to these coils?
Also if there wasn't any fan coils I assume that they could just be used for ventilation without the need for fan coil or AHU?

No 1 is a mixing box with opposed blade dampers; mixes air for downstream AHU.

No 2 is a diesel genset.

I spy with my little eye;
Two parallel dampers and they are both connected with a rod and the damper that is visible has an actuator connected to it.
I also see two disconnect switches which indicates that there is fan inside that can be disconnected for maintenance.
I would guess now that on the top there is a fan with a connection flange, with the dampers connected as they are it could be a pressurization system.
Now of there is a coil in it, it could be a heat recovery system, or heat rejection system, but then I would not link the two dampers but control them individually.
The second picture is a gen set as already mentioned.
Well this was my two cents to the guess what it is.

if number 2 is a diesel genset, then why does each rocker cover seem to have a spark plug wire sticking out of it?

I would have guessed natural gas. It's a small I6 - probably around 15L displacement, based on size... Definitely not a Cat. Doesn't look like a Cummins 855 though. Not sure.
