I've been doing quite a bit of FEA lately in ANSYS v12, but overall i am fairly new to FEA.

I am trying to do a structural (transient) analysis on a camshaft I designed. I am not really sure how or what type of forces to apply on the cam lobes (resulting from direct acting hydraulic tappets) to closely model the situation. I will probably define the force tabularly from precalculated forces from the valvetrain, but how to accurately apply them is the problem. Accounting for the force rotating around the lobe as it spins and only acting on the desired portion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What i think of is, you have to apply force on a line made from intersecting workplane with your geometry ( i am assuming that cam and follower are connected through a line connection. then keep rotating the plane at your required angle and apply force at every instant.
try to use APDL for the above mentioned method.
Hope i made my point clear. :)
