Colleagues:

Look in the next few days for our colleague VulcanHammer to post on our site our objectives of launching the Electronic Technical Journal for Practicing Engineers !! .

It is time that we put our heads together and start to put together a few papers that we can get onto the site so that practicing engineers can start using practical solutions to their problems!! MRM has a start on one and I will be putting together something on "back of envelope" estimate of influence of footing on adjacent footing in granular soils.

We will also be looking for several of us to peer review submitted papers - so please be ready. If you are willing - and I hope that we all are - please forward to me your preferred areas of review. ( friesh at inco period com ) I am also looking for someone who wants to help me develop my site so that we can use it for linking to our blog posting.

I hope that we can get this going - I am getting frustrated myself in reading journals that are 95% professors!! Nothing against professors - some are quite good but many are just out to keep their publications list growing. [blue]I look forward to everyone's help and input. Let's make this a "happening".[/blue]

BigH,
Have we got that intro pretty much wrapped up?

I've got the intro up on the "About" page.

BigH mentioned to me the issue of terms and conditions of the site. This is an important issue and one that the committee should consider. The one I use for my sites can be found at

Perhaps there's an in-house attorney in one of your organisations interested in a little "pro bono" work!

Finally I have a paper that we might consider for this site. It's a little theoretical but uncovers some interesting aspects of sheet pile design along the way. It's found at

Greetings everyone!

I've got two papers I think someone (somewhere) should find interesting. I'm looking to submit these two to ETJPE. I'm putting the finishing touches on them now. Perhaps with our group, I could submit them now so I can get some ideas of how to proceed before I spend a lot of time "finishing" them up...that could save me a lot of time!

It would be another week or so, but where should I send them when ready?

By the way, I should make an announcement: I've decided to re-enter academia for my Ph.D. I've accepted an offer at U. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and I'll begin this fall. (Hopefully this won't disqualify me from submitting papers, to what was intended to be for practicing engineers.)

Actually, I plan to keep a hand in the profession by doing some consulting with my current company and maybe some in Illinois as well with my advisor. I'll be applying for my PE in Illinois soon too-I've recently registered for NCEES council records.
