I don't think there is a code imposing the use a halogen free cable since this cable is more expensive and has low
mechanical properties.
Applications where corrosion potential is of particular concern include communications data centers and phone
switching stations with large amounts of expensive electronics.
The toxicity of smoke is of highest concern within enclosed spaces where means of escape by persons are limited; examples include mass transit rail cars, ships, and Offshore Oil and Gas platforms.
In existing installation where extension will be ordered if the old installation was usual cable using Halogen Free cable
does not improve the corrosive smoke content in a fire process case-not at the level as the standard requires.
There are only test standards as NFPA 262 or UL1666 but the test is done in Laboratory. Was some theoretical articles
proposing a calculation mode. I did this calculation for about 5000 halogen free cables and 10 cables pvc jacketed in a cable spreading room. The result was that the halogen content per cubical m was far from maximum permitted by standard.
I don't recommend also, halogen free cables pulled through conduits or ducts due to low mechanical properties of these cables.
