The efficiency and other mechanical losses can be significant so far better to simply measure it or ask the manufacturer.

Dennis, I think it's going to depend on the information you have on hand. Do you have a pump spec'ed, or are you in the process of selecting a pump to fit an application, or are you just figuring out your power requirements for a system? Please clarify.
