Calculating DNP3 message loading on a radio path

I need help calculating the message loading on a radio path between two PLCs communicating via DNP3.

We are using 900 MHz radios in full duplex mode. The radios will be configured for 9.6 kbps link capacity.

A brief summary of the data is as follows:

- A background poll of static data will be done every 4 hours
- One Class 1 event will occur each hour but five class 1 events are buffered before transmission
- One Class 3 event will occur every 10 hours but 25 of these events are buffered before tranmission

I need to determine if a 9.6 kbps link capacity will do.

My approach is to calculate the maximum network traffic, based on the above data, that may occur at a given time to determine if the selected link capacity will do.

I also thought of doing an hourly average but this would not account for periods of high traffic.

Any comments?
