I have a fabricated clevis with 8mm fillet weld all round the two lugs. The force is 20mT axial but might see some shear. How do you calculate the weld tensile/shear shear stress of this clevis ? I have attached some phots above and started with the calculation.

Hi flydan27

The allowable shear stress needs to be below 142 N/mm^2 so divide that by whatever safety factor suits your need so let’s say I want a safety factor of 2 then 142/2 = 71 N/mm^2 then size your weld based on the figure you obtain. I might of mislead you with my earlier post so sorry for that and the terminology should be allowable shear stress and not allowable yield.
