Calculate area of interest in Patran 1

hi, i need to calculate the area that has a certain color or higher in a fringe plot. for example the area of my model whose stress is beyond the yield tensile stress. is there an utility in patran which can do that?, and in another post processing program? or any other method you can think of?

I got clever on this one. Refer to image 1.png.

Suppose I have a mesh and I wish to create a surface to cover the yielded area. I create two curves (Curve 1 and Curve 2), each curve is created by two nodes (Create>Curve>Point). I then create a surface using the curve method (Create>Surface>Curve). Then I use "Show>Surface>Attributes" and select the surface I just made to get the area of this surface. It is not exact, but then again no FEA is.

mmm this is an interesting method, i'll try it. if got it right though it's an approximated area since the boundaries of the "colored surface" will not always pass on nodes and points. right?
 
There are many reasons why the method i suggested is an approximation of the area, and your reason is just one of the many.
 
I think that the best way is to post the result using fringe.
then go to Tools>List>Create and make a list of element with fringe value over the threshold desired.
Then you make a group with the list of elements and you can calculate the area of element in the group with utilities>elements>Area for selected elements
