Does anyone have data on the effects of calcium additions on gear pitting resistance ?

Ca is added to modify the shape of MnS inclusions-- essentially it makes them undeformable, so that they break up into smaller, globular particles instead of elongating into "stringers" during hot rolling. This should improve pitting resistance.
