Hi, I m trying to understand Bldg Seismic Effective Weight, BSEW, on a small 1 car garage 10x20x9'ht.
I watched several YouTube videos and still unsure.
A few questions:
1. In ASD calculation, that BSEW is the weight of the roof (15psf x 200sf) plus all perimeter walla weight (20+10)x2 x9ft ht x16psf ?
2. In calculating the base shear of one of the wall, should this BSEW be a factor, OR indeed the tributable load acting on the shear wall (1/4 of the pitched roof)?
Please help clarify (I am an architecture student).
Thanks
