I am looking for tolerance figures for buckles on the surface of the finished tank. They do not look nice and I have to convince the erection contractor that they are out of tolerance.. and API 650 does not help much.

Thanks in advance for any advice/guidance..

API has verticality, peaking and banding specifications. The floating roof seal(s) must also be capable of sealing the irregularities.

Buckles are judged in the same manner as the flatness tolerances of ASTM A6 and ASTM A20. These tolerances are prettyu liberal and may not be of much help.

My opinion only.

1/-Seals are important, probably seal maker can advise.

2/- This problem can be compared to pressure vessel under exteranl load , where one has to measure oyt of roundness at several sections of the vessel.

3/-API 579 in its section 8 , deals with deformations and misalignment and their criteria.
In its , 8.6 and 8.7 it summarizes equirements of: API 650, 653 (and even figure 8.5 anfd for API's 620 which is asimilar to ASME VIII)..

Have a nice day.
