Bridge R/C deck overhang, shear check?

I am analyzing a R/C slab for a bridge deck overhang. The overhang will be fixed on one end (prestressed girder beam flange interface) and free on the other. The free end is supporting a safety shape rail (considered continuous rail). The top steel from the bridge slab runs transverse, and is the main tension reinforcement for the overhang. The Live load is an HS25 type truck. I am using AASHTO spec. The dimension for the overhang is 3.5ft (centerline of exterior girder TY IV to edge of slab). There is only standard dead load from slab wt. & overlay. Will be using Allowable stress design. I am familar with flexure checks due to rail (impact load) and Wheel load. But not any shear checks? AASHTO does not specify shear for a cantilever slab (AASHTO 3.24.5). distribution width for truck load? Why? Any thoughts?
Thanks

AASHTO 3.24.4 says that 'slabs designed for bending moment in accordance with Article 3.24.3 shall be considered satisfactory in bond and shear.'

In other words... Don't worry about shear for the design of the slab.

Thanks for the reply MikeD........but does this apply to "cantilever slabs" also? This is the category that o'hangs fall under, this is AASHTO 3.25. I was reading the code as shear in the slab "between" the beams. Where the slab is continuous over 3 or more supports, not cantilevered. Any thoughts?

Article 3.24 covers the design of all parts of the deck slab and therefore 3.24.4 is meant for all parts of the deck slab including the cantilevers.

Good Luck
