Bridge design specifications

I understand that the 6th edition of the AASHTO LRFD bridge design specifications are the most current. How often to the specifications change between editions? I don't want to spend $400 bucks if the code changes in January.

Figure every three years for a new edition with intermission every year. AASHTO is out of control.
