I just got a note that stated, "More than half of bridges and roads in Canada reported to be in good or very good condition in 2020."

What it doesn't state is that, "Less than half the bridges and roads in Canada is reported to be is less than good condition." Sounds like government political 'spin'.

Politicians like to be at ribbon cuttings for new bridges and they never show up when the jackhammers and needle guns are brought out to dig into the disintegrating carcass of one being repaired or replaced early because of poor material, design, or maintenance from going to the lowest bidder for all three.

Thanks for the correction...

And "more than half" is probably 52%....

dik - in the Canadian rating system can bridge be considered excellent? FHWA uses three terms, good, fair, & poor. In NYS bridges are rated from 1 to 7, with 1 being considered new.

Thanks for the added info bb...

What I meant was that it wasn't 75%...

So it just sounds better saying " more than half", but unless you know if that is 52% or 70% you don't get an appreciation of the extent of the issue. Which is a real politicians answer

Since they're reporting how many are in good condition, as opposed to reporting how many are in poor condition, it sounds like they want to tout how well they're doing. If that's the case, it's probably not much over 50%, or they would have said "6 in 10" or "7 in 10", etc.

That's what I was thinking, Rod... else they would have said more than 55%.
