Hi all,

I cannot find much guidance on this - but... When designing pilings, does the hydrodynamic load from water velocity act simultaneously with the breaking wave loads? Thanks!

Have you looked in the Coastal Construction Manual/FEMAP-55? If I remember correctly (please double check me, it has been a couple years), you do not typically apply both hydrodynamic and breaking wave loads on piles. The calculation for hydrodynamic forces on piles is a calculation of non-breaking wave forces and should be compared against the breaking wave forces.

Edit: You may need to consider debris impact in addition to either of the forces above; again, please double check.
