I have created a pipe and made a cross section of the pipe. Next I made a detail of the ID of end of the pipe. I would like to make a reference diameter dimension of the ID but I don’t want to show the whole diameter. My question basically is how do I break the dimension line? What I would like to show is the dimension text then a line with an arrow to an extension line.

Hi,

Try in properties of the dimension

Extension Line/

Uncheck "Display first extension line" or "Display second extension line"

Dimension Line/

Symbol 1/Shape/ Select type of arrow (e.g. No Symbol)
Symbol 2/Shape/ Select type of arrow

Well half way there. The problem is that the dimension line is still the length of the diameter of the part. Since the detail view is larger than the drawing the dimension line is off the page. How do you now shorten the dimension line?

Hi,

One way to shorten the dimension line is to do the following:

Properties/Extension Line

- Check the Funnel box
- Set Funnel Mode to "Internal"
- Set Funnel side
- Adjust Width to wanted lenght

There might be other ways to do this......

You could also try using a "Half dimension"

How do I adjust the lenght of the dimension line when using "Half dimension"?

I get the same lengh of the dimension line as if I create the original dimension and the value is getting two times the original one. Is this possible to adjust in the standard file?
