Hi
I am about to dig some test holes on a 200+ acres in order to determine if it will be a suitable borrow pit.i'll be digging with a 30-40 ton excavator.any good hints on what to look for or stay away from? thanks
My first hint on what to look for would be a Geotechnical Engineer. I am not experienced in siting a borrow pit, but I would imagine it would be more desirable to have a Geotech perform borings and do lab tests to find soils with the desired specs rather than a 40 ton excavator and eyeballing it.
Depending on the terrain I would look at the use of a GEOPROBE , a track or truck mounted unit. Since it is a very small machine and uses direct push technologies, you could move four times as fast. Any geotech should have the capability for you.
