Recently I applied a job for Civil Engineer (Transportation) in PA. I will be tested before my qualifications are reviewed. They give the subjects of test, one of which is Construction Methods and Materials. Since I have no idea about this subject, I wondering if someone can help me out. Which book for this subject is appropriate? Thank you.

Wow, must be a buyers market out there in PA. It used to be that having a degree and EIT made you qualified for an entry level position (I presume that is what it is?)

I'm not sure I even recall a class in college for Construction Methods and Materials. I recall 'materials science', but that was very general. So what do they want you to know how to construct? Buildings? Utilities? Roadways?

You could read volumes upon volumes on the topic depending on the focus of study. Maybe it's just me, I would be kind of inclined to tell them to stuff it.

Thank you for your input. I have EIT & PE. I have no clue about the specific subject of the Construction Methods & Material. I am applying transportation engineer. I wish someone who has experience of the test can give me some hint? I contacted the Engineer Commission. They did not provide any guidelines.

Since you will be tested by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, read their material manuals. Such as Publication 19 "Pennsylvania Test Methods" or Bulletin 15 "Approved Construction Materials".

These are available on their website.

hotgas is on target if you are going to be working in pavement design or materials. I would also suggest Principles of Pavement Design by Yoder and Witczak.
