Sorry I also added this as a replay, oops!
Anyone notice when parts are changed in an assembly, some custom properties do not update correctly in the drawing BOM. The BOM has to be deleted and re-inserted for the update to take. This now puts the new BOM icon at the bottom of the multi sheet tree, as opposed to its original placement at the bottom, under its respective sheet features. Any views linked to the original BOM stay linked to "None" as default, but balloons wont update to the new BOM unless "Link to BOM" in unchecked under the view's "More Properties" tab. The pulldown here does not allow the new BOM to be picked, to link the view to the BOM. Stays at "None". I'd heard there was a fix in place for all.

So you're saying that when you update part custom properties (not add/delete parts) the updates won't show in the BOM even after a Ctrl-Q rebuild? I'm also on 2006 SP4.1 and I've never seen this happen. Corrupt install perhaps?

Go to Tools > Options > Document Properties and select Automatic update of BOM in the Bill of Materials section.

If you do not have this checked, the ONLY way to update the BOM (that I know of) is to click on the BOM, then select the top left box where the cell references meet, then do an update.

BTW, this is for the SW BOM.

Never noticed that option before, CBL... good call! SFY!

handleman, I dont beleive its a corrupt install as Ive seen it in SW2005, I was told then the BOM sometimes had to be re inserted to update(?) Ive also been told from our support group this was a known issue.

Bradley, no the BOM is SW not Excel based

CorBlimeyLimey, I dont see a bill of materials section under Tools, Options... Maybe Im a little off today?

I am a little off today, I found the switch and it was checked. I did not know about the update from the BOM you described. Thanks! Do you mean rebuild, icon or Ctrl-Q, as the update?

Either works for me ... but if the auto-update option is checked & the BOM does not automatically update, then you obviously have a problem somewhere else.

Are you aware of any other unusual problems?

We have this same problem, but because we reorder the BOM it would take a lot of time to delete and readd it. Whats been working for us is if I click on the BOM and then go over to my Property Manager and click on Table Properties. We then hit the check mark at the top and do a rebuild. For some reason now the BOM will update. Hope this works for you too.
