BOM Numbering

Im currently working on a BOM for a large assembly. I have some parts that are used several times in the assembly. However, it gives them different item numbers in the BOM each time they appear. Is there a way to make them all coem up with the same item number each time they come up? It is a solidworks BOM, not Excel. Thanks in advance.

If you edit the properties of a BOM there is a section labelled "Part configuration and Grouping", here you can select a number of different ways for the BOM to handle item numbers.

isnt that part only for the configurations though? all of these parts are the same part, and the same config.

Are these parts on the top level or components of a subassembly?

its parts that are in multiple subassemblies. none of them are top level parts. basically the same parts used in different subassemblies, which are all used in the full assm.

If you use an indented BOM, the components will show up under each subassembly they are used in. If you use a "parts list" style, the parts should only be listed once.

okay. i am using the indented BOM, becasuse the boss wants the numbering that solidworks uses. but the numbers for each part has to be the same. i was hoping there was an easy way to do that, but i can just renumber them myself. thanks

What you are doing is quite a bit of a departure from common practice. Sounds like you're trying to do too much with too little, as far as detailing your assembly structure. I would recommend against what you are doing simply for the reason that the drawing is likely to actually be more confusing than your boss is confused.

I don't think SW has a way to do it.
