I have read the books regarding bolted joint diagrams and it all makes sense. They usually refer to a bolt with two plates and one nut. I would like to do the calculations for a slightly different joint where a stud is threaded into a massive steel casing and one steel plate is bolted to the casing.
Q: Do I simply replace the thickness of the two plates with the thickness of my one plate for calculations as well as assume the outer surface of the casing is the mating face of the nut to get the bolt length being stretched?
Just want confirmation before I steam ahead calculating my bolt joint diagram.
Thank You
