there is an exhaust leak from boiler combustion chamber inspection door. what temporary repairs can be done onboard ship during sailing.i was thinking of some ceramic rope to seal this door.

The first question I would have would be:
Is this a pressure based leak?
If it is because of pressure, is the pressure in the chamber what it should be, (or a wee bit low due to the leak)?
If the leak is being caused by chamber pressure that is too high, fixing the leak may cause a disaster.
If the pressure is what it should be then by all means ceramic rope would be fine. Depending on a lot of things you may be able to just "clink" the gap temporarily without shutdown. If you can open the door you will need to assess how the gaskets are held in place and work with that.

another problem may be that the door is bent. Underway you can fashion a dog by taking a piece of angle iron and drilling a hole it and welding a nut on. Weld the angle iron by the edge of the door on the boiler housing, taking car not to get it so hot that the pressure in the boiler chamber will blow it out. then take a bolt and tighten it down against the door until it pushes it tight against the boiler housing.
Well this should be unnpressurized, if it isn't check immedeately for exits and liferafts (don't go for the lifeboats they'll be too crowded anyway...).
Well to be seriuus, these gaskets take a lot of heat. normally they're made of some threaded stuff, you may get around by some other insulation material Stonewool or some glava type (Glass wool) insulation( not asbestos...), both take high temperatures, and are normally available. Main problem is that you will have to shut down the boiler, and wait for the temp to get down somewhat. The door will, as mentioned above here pretty certainly get bent if the leakage is not taken care of.
Plan B, would be to insulate on the outside flanges of the door, to avoid shutting the boiler down until in harbour and proper gaskets can be found.
