Some tube leaking near to the drum caused damage to the drum shell (lower drum).

The boiler rate is 100ton/h @ 24bar (220462 lbs/hr @ 348psi).

The nominal drum thickness is 31.7mm (1 1/4") and the minimum thickness at the damaged area is around 6mm (1/4") !!

What should be the recomended repair? Welding according ASME PW-40.3, or replace part of the shell?

Attached photo of the damaged region.

Kind regards,

Agree with stanweld. However, it looks to me that you have a substantial amount of external corrosion damage in this area from wet ash conditions. I would strongly suggest you clean this location and obtain thickness readings on the terminal tubes and the header. You may have more damage from wastage.

Thank you for your answers!
We used NBIC 1, and the boiler is operating fine since yesterday.
