Bleach washers drum lip seal

Hi,
At kraft pulp and paper mill, we have bleach washer drums with a lip seal that goes along the center of the drum around the circumference. We have seen frequent failures of this seal where it appears to have cuts and cracks, and hardens.
Does anyone else have similar system and are you seeing these issues.
