Dear all,

I want to clarify the physical phenomena of blast load calculation on roof beams.

REFERENCE: Design of Blast Resistant Buildings in Petrochemical Facilities (ASCE)

Page 11-3 :- Shows the over all layout of building.(Attached for quick reference)

Page11-27 :- Load on roof beams is calculated in sectin 11.8.1 & section 11.8.2 (attahed and clouded the relevant)

Load case A (Perpendicular to span of beam) : [(18 ft span)* (slab reaction) + (slab reaction with 0.006 sec delay)]

Load case B (Parallel to span of beam) : (18 ft span)[average delayed slab reactions to 0.014 sec] * (2 sides)

Can i get more detailed explanation about load case A and load case B.

Thanks & Regards
Anji

I would need more information on what your specific questions are.

Dear Haynewp,

Thank you for the response. I want to know how to calculate the loading on roof beams when the building subjected to blast load. One example is given in ASCE (Design of Blast Resistant Buildings in Petrochemical Facilities,Section 11.3. Please ask me if any further details are required.

Regards
Anji

That particular example provides a pressure time history for the loading. This question is too broad to explain in a forum.
