Whats the "pro's" and "con's" with "white" and "black" color, on an hydraulic reservoir??

Does black color radiate more heat than white?

System is operated in high ambient temperature under direct sunlight. The hydraulic system itself, is also generating excessive heat. Goal is to keep reservoir temperature as low as possible.

Thank you in advance for any explanation and/or advice!!

More radiant heat radiates to and from a black surface than from a white surface.

No such system is ever so simple that this question can be answered without some detailed analysis. One might expect a sunshade, cooling fins, etc., and only a detailed evaluation of the heat balance can answer the question posed.

In your situation, maybe a reflective coating/paint on your tank might help the most.

Thanks for all replies...I do realize it is a complex issue...reservoirs are already white painted....so it is a matter of if it is worth the effort of painting them black....I'll probobly suggest stay white....

You do not want to absorb heat and then try to remove it. Therefore, it should stay white, but you might want to think about a sunshade.
