Monitoring a DeLaval "C" frame boiler feed pump which has a balance line leak-off rate that is increasing. The line has an orifice flowmeter connected to a transmitter, calibration checked. The DeLaval leak-off chart has an alarm at 260 - 280 GPM. This pump is currently at 320GPM and increasing slowly. It has a balance disk with a straight taper.

Does anyone have flow rates on their pump before a failure? What is a safe limit? The radial vibration levels are 1.0 to 1.5 mils p-p, no axial prox probe. Seal drain temps are normal and injection rates are 40 - 50 GPM. A change in the injection rate can be seen on the orifice flow meter too.

I would like to hear of others experiences on this issue, thanks.
