For those interested, I’ve just finished reading the book “Beyond Failure – Forensic Case Studies for Civil Engineers”, by Norbert J. Delatte Jr., ASCE Press, 2009. The book is written as a textbook, with case studies on 40+ civil engineering failures. Most of them are pretty well known and it includes some recent ones like the New Orleans Levee Failures and the I-35 Bridge. The case studies give the basics of the failures and what lessons have been learned and can be applied in the various CE courses.
However, for those interested in a more detailed look at the failures, the book provides links and references to the main sources for the case studies discussed – so it can provide information to practicing engineers too.
