Hi,

This is about a bevel gear box situated between the steering column and power steering gear. (to convert the vertical axis of rotn of steering wheel to a horizontal axis of the power steering gear in a bus)

Wanted to know the critical aspects of this component. If one were to test and approve this part for fitment on a vehicle, what aspects should one look at...viz backlash, input effort ..etc.

Also interested to know if any one of you have come across any failure in this part.

Thanks in advance.

There are quite a few manufacturers of these bevel boxes. Do you have an idea which one(s) you're looking at? We've used bevel boxes in our steerings systems on military vehicles for over 20 years. Though I've only been here about 6 months, I don't recall seeing any issues with such a set up.
