Hi.

We'd appreciate an advise on what tester is the best for
PMI on material and welding.
Our main application:
- SS : 304H
- CrMo: 1 1/4Cr 1/2 MO
Thanks in advance.

The common portable x-ray fluorescence units for PMI are;
Niton, Texas Nuclear and Inovex

They each have their advantages and disadvantages. These three will not determine carbon content. However, for general sorting of alloys and weld metal composition we use the Texas Nuclear, and a good magnet.

Spectro Analytical or Arc Met spectroscopic analyzers will give you specific carbon content of high and low carbon stainless steels. The Niton, Texas Nuclear or Innovex will not.
