Best Software for Transient Motor Starting

Greetings,

What software is recommended for studying motor transients? SKM/ETAP/Easypower?

I used SKM for years to evaluate starting large motors with Soft Starters at different settings, it never steered me wrong. I don't have it any longer though.

Thanks jraef. I think a better question would be, which software has the best database of standby generators that can be modeled in the study as power sources in the system..

Use the software from Cat or Onan. Note: the starting voltage drop is assumed and the programs work from their to give a suitable generator size. You can change the conservative default allowable voltage drop parameter and re-iterate to check other sizes of generators.
When faced with the cost of a larger generator most customers are willing to live with more that the very conservative Cat numbers for voltage drop on motor starting.
