Best pratice guides and references

Dear sirs,

I am on starting work in the design group for a major project. Most of my experince is based in operations and startups with 1-2 years in design but only on minor projects below $1 millon dollars. I always like to do some background reading on new roles so i understand best pratices and industry expertise. so can anyone recommend books /articles in cep/ce... that are worth a read..
