Sorry if this is too basic but I'm unsure re this and haven't found similar on Web ...

I thought even electrical engineers took Statics. If I am reading your question right, the initial Moment at R due to the force "F" is FxZ. You also have moment at R from the weight of the structure itself.

Why are you assuming no bending along the Z member? I do not know what a "flexible member" is.
