Dear Experts,

Good Day!

I have welded(GTAW) a PQR of 17-4PH stainless steel with ER630(Client requirement) as per ASME Sec IX.

In bend test, my specimen is cracking at center of weld. Sample thickness is 16mm and side bend radius was chosen as 67mm as per BM elongation percentage 13% min as per material code.

But ER630 is having minimum elongation of 7% as per Sec II-C and my consumable was not bend tested at manufacturer end.

Please guide me through this.

Regards,
M.Raghuvamshi

Have you cross sectioned the weld?
Was the weld performed properly? And defects in the weld?
What does the client have to say about the test results?

For materials, including weld filler metals, with low elongation, you can make bends with much wider bend radius to account for this.

Why bend test specimen is 16 mm, and why dimension A (see Figure QW-466.1) is 67 mm?

Did you see the bending test?

Regards
