I would like to determine the 5x5 stiffness matrix of a single row tapered roller bearing.

If you specify the stiffnesses at the "effective load center", you can get by for all practical purposes with a 3 x 3 matrix, since the tilt stiffness is almost zero about that point. So you only really need to obtain two stiffnesses (radial and axial). Suggest you contact Timken to obtain them.

Is the "effective load center" the center of the bearing adjusted for the axial and radial deflections produced by the preload ?

No, it is the point on the bearing axis which interesects with a line drawn normal to the inner cone surface at a point midway along the bearing roller. Suggest you get a Timken catalog to see what I am talking about. The position of this point is tabulated there for every bearing they make.

Sorry - that should have read "inner conical surface of the outer cup".
