Our company is diving into GD&T once again. We took an online course but it didn't cover what I am asking. Many sites I've been looking up state a drawing is not done if the basic dimension is not toleranced. Either by note or from a feature control frame on the feature it is referencing. We are at a quandary about what the note should be (& we don't mean the "see CAD file for basic dimensions" or something of that nature). Any samples or suggestions as to what it should be?

forum1103 may be a better place.

Basic drawing do indeed need a tolerance*

The note could perhaps be a general note somethign like "UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED SURFACE PROFILE TOLERANCE OF .010 APPLIES TO ALL SURFACES" - but that may not be the most effective implementation of GD&T.

*There are actually a couple of exceptions but they're a bit esoteric for day to day understanding.
