Baseline design for low cost AHRS

I would like to leverage the vast experience of the navigation community in the design of attitude systems. I want pretty good estimates of heading and heading rate from a 6-DOF sensor set, and magnetic compass. Can anyone recommend a reference design estimation algorithm that estimates attitudes and gyro bias?
