Base Plate Grout Holes

I'm reviewing steel shop drawings for a project. The detailer has indicated two 3/4" dia. grout holes for a 16"x16" base plate. I realize AISC doesn't recommend grout holes for less than 24" plates but is there anything detrimental to having these grout holes?

I wouldn't normally use grout holes for a 16x16 BPl... should be easy enough to place flowable or place grout. If you are concerned about grout bedding, you can use 1/4" grout plates that can be lifted for 'inspection'.

I am always more comfortable regarding proper placement if I see the grout emanating from under the plate at the edge. Structurally, there should be no problem with only two 3/4" diameter holes.

. My understanding is that grout holes aren't necessary for baseplates less than 24" wide. Two 3/4" holes probably won't hurt anything. I would chalk it up to means and methods, except 3/4" seems awfully small for a grout hole. They are typically 2" or 3" holes. Out of curiosty, you might call the contractor (sub contractor) and ask them why they need such small holes in a 16" baseplate.

16x16 should be no problem to drypack. Do not know why they are showing them.
