What is a barometric leg pls explain ?
And we got a recommendation to install a barometric leg in chlorine tonner handling line to a reactor where it is reqd to be purged? Why so ?

Barometric leg is a vertical pipe connecting two vessels one at low pressure or vacuum condition (P1) and the other at higher pressure or atmospheric pressure (P2).

In general, the low pressure vessel (V1) is located at higher elevation than the high pressure vessel (V2). To enable the liquid flow from low pressure vessel (V1) to high pressure vessel (V2), this barometric leg is filled with the liquid thus offering some static head (Ps) as well as liquid seal. Height of the barometric leg should be sufficiently high such that the Pressure in low pressure vessel (P1) + Static head (Ps) should be greater than Pressure in high pressure vessel (P2).

It would be great if you could draw it on a piece of paper and show how its usually installed ...i could not get it totally...i am a recent graduate so i am very slow.

Understood now.sir...thanks for the clarity and pic.
